Do you get anxious throughout the day and want healthy ways to deal with anxiety? We understand and want you to know that you can help yourself! Try these 5 healthy ways to deal with anxiety:
1. Exercise
When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. They trigger a positive, happy feeling in your body, making you less sad and anxious. Exercising regularly can even have a positive effect on your self-esteem, helping you conquer your anxiety. Sometimes going on a walk is good to clear your head and focus on something else instead of all the worries you’ve been thinking about. Doing something fun, like a dance class, can also help with your anxiety by taking your mind off of things. Get up and start moving to chase away your worries!
2. Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils from flowers, roots, and herbs to promote healthfulness of the mind and body. Most people tend to put dabs of oil near their temples or on their wrists. They also use diffusers that spray the essential oils into the air to breathe them in. Some of the most popular oils for anxiousness are lavender, basil, bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, and lemon balm. Before you begin using essential oils, you should speak with your doctor to ensure it is safe for you to use them.
3. Get Enough Sleep
Many people’s minds start to race while they lay in bed at night trying to sleep. You definitely don’t want to be without the right amount of sleep since it can lead to other health issues. When we sleep, our bodies repair themselves. Getting enough sleep results in feeling well rested, enabling you to face the day and your worries head on. Without getting enough sleep, your anxiety could wreak havoc on your life, and that’s definitely not something you want. Schedule what time you want to be in bed to ensure you’re getting enough sleep.
4. Do Something Relaxing
Doing something that relaxes you is probably one of the most helpful ways to deal with anxiety. Pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read and get lost in it. Go on a nature walk and take in the beauty of the world. Meditate on the back porch, do yoga in the living room, or whatever it is that makes you feel at peace and washes all of your worries away. You might forget what you were even anxious about or you’re now in a better place to deal with your anxiety. No matter what you like to do, finding that activity that relaxes you is important!
5. Positive Thinking
While it’s hard to squash all of those thoughts racing through your head, positive thinking has been known to really help with anxiety. Typically, negative thoughts come with worries, which puts you in a bad mental state. Try telling yourself positive things when a negative thought comes up. Soon, you’ll be able to do it without thinking about it! You may feel skeptical, but there are plenty of ways to train yourself to think positively. You can use fake positivity until it becomes real, write a journal with positive thoughts, or spend time with positive people.
Dealing with anxiety can be hard. You may be able to handle it on your own, but you also might need help. If your anxiety starts to prevent you from doing normal activities, it may be time to contact a therapist or your doctor about medication.
